Weekly Debrief #3

Gordy "Lawn-Dart" Clarke

On the eve of what promises to be a scorching June Bank Holiday, we’ll start this week’s debrief with a quick recap of last weekend’s penultimate round of the Husqvarna British Sprint Enduro Championship. As mentioned hitting the high seas and taking the journey down to Adstone, Manor Farm, Northampton were Electraction TM’s duo Gordon Clarke, Jordan Scott along with Robert Lynn and new kid on the block Richard Topping. Fronting the home interest, Clarke put in a strong showing throughout the weekend in the Elite class. Against Britain’s best, Gordy put up a good fight on his TM 250f finishing an unlucky 13th both days. Only for a costly stall on Saturday that left him stranded for over a minute and a huge crash that “lawn darted” into the turf on Sunday afternoon we would have seen Gordy inside the top ten… the times in the Elite are that tight, making any mistakes are costly. The BSEC proved to be a weekend of frustration for Under 19 top contender Jordan Scott. Entering the weekend nursing an injury from a previous motocross race, Scott gutted out a well earned 4th and first 125cc rider home. But the following day proved a step to far and Jordan had to call time when his foot became too sore to continue on. Adstone marked a big improvement in Robert Lynn’s run in the BSEC. Lining up in the Expert ranks, he rounded out his weekend with two 8th. Richard Topping wasted little time in adjusting to Sprint Enduro racing. Pushing for a top five in Clubman on Saturday, he fell to 12th with his KTM developed an unfixable misfire. The KTM cried enough and left Richard sidelined until the organisers stepped in and offered him a bike. On the “big Yam” Richie rode to an impressive 6th just missing 5th by less than 6 seconds. Many thanks to Si Evans for putting him back out on track!

It seem’s Sprint Enduro’s are becoming flavour of the month with news filtering through that not one but two races will be held in the coming weeks. First up will be Fastlane MCC running a sprint enduro as part of the Summer Series of racing at Doon, Athlone. Pencil June 19th into your Filofax and make your way to Doon for a full day of special test racing. Reg will be available shortly!
… And if you can’t wait until then to ride, the motocross track is open this Bank Holiday Monday for a bitt of practice

Next up will be the turn of the Leinster Motor Club to run their Sprint Enduro as part of their motor sport festival to celebrate their 90th anniversary on July 10th. Like me you’re probably wondering whats a car club doing running an enduro but reading into a bit more we find this end of things is being taking care of by Expert rider Paul McLoughlin. With the event being staged at the Bemount Demesne, Greystones, Co Wickow, it promises a course with a little bit of everything and with everything from car trials, vintage tractor shows and pitbike racing going on it’s shaping up nicely to be a good weekend. We’ll have more on this shortly, so keep checking the site…

In between all of this will be the Foyle club’s Feeny XC on Saturday June 25th Nicely timed for the same weekend as the British Motocross Championship at Desertmartin and conveniently just down the road from it too, Feeny XC ensures June is a month of motor sport! Off Road Ireland; Ireland’s only magazine dedicated to off-road sport (direct quote!) is back in the shops again and while not only feature all things motocross and the like, it’s also got a healthy dosage of Enduro including an interview with Stuart Edmonds on his taste of the BSEC sprints. Speaking of Stuart, we wish him the very best as he takes to the world’s stage for this weekend’s MXGP of France, so make sure to tune into Motors TV on Sunday and cheer him on from the comfort of your living room!

Finally, here’s the lowdown from Andrew Reeves on the bog-hopping round of the British Enduro Championship.
“Man, the BEC quickly turned into a big bog-hopper. A lot of bikes ended stranded everywhere but luckily I stayed clean, clean on time anyway! I was 4th E3 Expert and 15th Expert overall which I was pleased with but during the day I snagged my hand and it hurt quite a bit by the time I’d finished so I didn’t ride Sunday. To be fair the course was worse for wear and with my main focus being Erzberg I didn’t need to do anymore damage to myself of the bike so I called it a day!”

Right thats just about enough for now… time for supercross, phew!!
